The Minnesota Debut of The Ferryman Arrives at Park Square Theatre
The University of Minnesota?s Department of Theatre Arts & Dance proudly presents the Minnesota debut of Jez Butterworth?s The Ferryman?a sweeping, critically acclaimed epic that has electrified audiences in London and on Broadway. Directed by Bruce Roach and presented by BFA Acting Class of 2025.
About The Ferryman
Winner of the Tony Award for Best Play and the Olivier Award for Best New Play, The Ferryman is set in 1981 Northern Ireland, The Ferryman unfolds in the rural home of the Carney family as they prepare for the annual harvest. What begins as a celebration of life quickly darkens when the family?s past?tangled in the political turmoil of The Troubles?comes crashing into the present. Secrets long buried begin to surface, and the play builds to a heart-stopping climax that leaves audiences breathless.
Why The Ferryman Matters Now
Although rooted in the specific history of The Troubles in Northern Ireland, The Ferryman resonates far beyond its setting. It is a story of family, loyalty, and the price of silence, exploring how political strife infiltrates personal lives. As the world continues to grapple with conflict, generational trauma, and divided societies, this production speaks to the urgent relevance of history?s echoes in today?s world.
