Celebrating Transmission's 24th Anniversary with DJ Jake Rudh

TRANSMISSION (at the club) is a long-running night for people who dig a good, varied mix of music, showcasing the best in new wave, indie rock, British pop, funk, garage, punk, post-punk, synth-pop, electro and everything in-between each Wednesday night at the Uptown VFW from 8pm - midnight. TRANSMISSION (on the radio) is a weekly program on Minnesota Public Radio's 89.3 The Current, bringing you a different theme each Thursday at 10pm CST.

"Jake Rudh's Transmission dance party is one of those bragworthy, homegrown Minnesota staples, like Surly Furious, Peace Coffee and Purple RainĀ  one of those uniquely hip things that we proudly share with our friends who reside in places like NYC, LA or Chicago as a way of saying, this is why we live in Minnesota. Rudh, who frequently tops the Twin Cities 'Best of' lists is lauded for his quirky sets loaded with obscure tracks, but grounded with intuitive hits spanning new wave, post-punk, glam rock, mod rock, alternative and indie rock. Every Wednesday night, Jake tempts people away from their workweek sleep schedules to bust it out and rock it to New Order, the Ramones, B-52s, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Interpol, Bowie and everything else that compels you to adopt a lipstick rock-god persona. We?re all gonna die, but Transmission works to keep our engines running." [Niles Schwartz, L'etoile]

Jake Rudh is both a Minneapolis club and radio DJ hosting "Transmission" the program heard on 89.3 The Current every Thursday night at 10PM. Jake's worked in music for over 30 years including Capitol Records, NPR, and Twin Cities alternative favorites REV 105 and Radio K. Having been voted "best club DJ" in the Twin Cities for ten straight years by the readers of City Pages magazine, he brings the varied mix of the club nights to the airwaves each week with a different theme to his show.

Being named after the Joy Division classic, the program is heavily centered around post-punk, new wave, and dark wave as well as shoegaze, dream pop, psych, power, indie, and British pop. Jake often hosts in-studio sessions and interviews musicians from those worlds...most recently Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders, Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music, Duran Duran's John Taylor, Sting, Adam Ant, Ron and Russell Mael of Sparks, synth-pioneer Thomas Dolby, Peter Murphy of Bauhaus, Devo founder Mark Mothersbaugh, Andy Gill of Gang of Four, and Talking Heads & Tom Tom Club co-founder Chris Frantz.
