RED SPEEDO is staged at an actual swimming pool. Seating is on benches. Choose from Main Floor Seating (benches to which we’ve added a portable stadium seat with cushion and back) and Upper Level Seating (wooden benches with no back). Within each section, seating is general admission.

Event Details:

Ray has swum his way to the eve of the Olympic trials. If he makes the team, he'll get a deal with Speedo. If he gets a deal with Speedo, he'll never need a real job. So when someone's stash of performance-enhancing drugs is found in the locker room fridge, threatening the entire team's Olympic fate, Ray has to crush the rumors or risk losing everything.

Red Speedo is a sharp and stylish play about swimming, survival of the fittest, and the American dream of a level playing field -- or of leveling the field yourself -- by Lucas Hnath, the author of Walking Shadow's hit 2016 show The Christians.

Red Speedo runs approximately 80 minutes without intermission.

Content warnings: RED SPEEDO contains adult language, misogynistic language, reference to drug use, and violence.

Covid Policy: Masks required on Sundays. Masks encouraged on Fridays and Saturdays. We do not require any proof of vaccination.

Organization Details:

Walking Shadow Theatre Company is a Minneapolis-based company with a reputation for producing well-staged and carefully researched work. We are drawn to shows that are smart, exciting, savvy—and often a little quirky or subversive. Walking Shadow has been called “a company that deserves attention” by the Star Tribune and praised by Minnesota Monthly for its “polished productions of incisive modern works.” Walking Shadow has performed at a variety of theaters in the Twin Cities since 2004, including the Dowling Studio at the Guthrie Theater, Minneapolis Theatre Garage, Pillsbury House, Red Eye, and others. The company also has appeared several times at the Minnesota Fringe Festival and occasionally produces site-specific, interactive shows with puzzles.
